Space for Development, Leisure & Events

Hubermont is the ideal place in the Ardennes for meaningful encounters.

Twenty-five years ago, Professor Dr. Herman Wittockx noticed that there was no place that truly matched the needs and desires of participants in his leadership trainings, strategic programmes and in-depth development journeys. So he decided to create that place himself.

He asked managers, consultants and participants one central question: “What do you truly expect from a training and development location?”

From these conversations, four principles emerged that still form the core of Hubermont Space for Development today:

  • Space for connection: Slowed-down time that invites depth, where conversations move beyond the agenda.
  • Connection with nature: A place where thinking, feeling and intention come together, creating calm and clarity.
  • A secluded location: To step away from daily concerns and focus on what truly matters and gives meaning.
  • Gastronomy and enjoyment: Celebrating trust, relaxed togetherness and creating moments that connect.

Located amidst the vast forests and rolling hills of the Ardennes, near La Roche-en-Ardenne, Hubermont Space for Development welcomes leaders, teams and organisations who wish to pause, reflect and grow.

At Hubermont, there is peace and space to work with attention on what truly counts. The two locations, surrounded by nature, provide an ideal setting for trainings, strategy meetings and workshops where personal development and professional growth come together. The accommodations combine the comfort of a carefully designed stay with the warmth of feeling at home. Each guest has a private room with en-suite bathroom, offering space for personal retreat. The meeting rooms are equipped with didactic materials to support successful sessions. Atmospheric communal spaces invite meaningful encounters and valuable conversations. After an inspiring day, guests let their impressions settle down by the fireplace, in the sauna or on the terrace overlooking the panoramic valley.

Hubermont welcomes a wide range of (business) groups from 10 to 60 people, including executive and management teams seeking space for leadership programmes, strategic challenges, project kick-offs and team development. Full-service includes catering with fresh, local ingredients, a well-stocked wine cellar and various relaxation facilities. For added experience, outdoor activities can be included, focused either on relaxation or experiential learning with reflection: from guided walks to reflection sessions in nature and rafting on self-built rafts.

The result of a stay at Hubermont?

The peace and sense of safety give guests the space to arrive, reflect and continue developing from there. Between hills and forests, conversations arise that go beyond the agenda, ideas mature during a walk, and solutions suddenly emerge at the table or by the fireplace. Participants return home with renewed energy, clear direction and a sense of connection that resonates long afterwards.

Whether it concerns a training, strategic meeting, offsite retreat, workshop or team-building programme, our location offers everything needed to take steps forward together. The combination of tranquillity, nature and hospitable flexibility creates the ideal environment to reflect, let ideas flow, build collaboration or simply unwind.

The history of Hubermont

In 1860, the first stone of Hubermont La Colline was laid as a village school. In 1896, the school welcomed a new neighbour: a farmhouse. More than a century later, both buildings inspired Prof. Dr. Herman Wittockx to undertake a remarkable transformation. In 2002, Hubermont evolved from a place of primary education into a workspace for adult learning — a unique location within the European educational landscape: “A Space for Development.”

In 2014, driven by the growing demand for Hubermont’s key elements of space and exclusivity, the founder began to consider a second Space for Development. In 2017, this new Space opened its doors: Hubermont La Vallée. Unlike the first building, which was constructed in a classical Ardennes style, this Space was built in a contemporary blend of natural materials combined with functional details. This expansion opened up new markets: two different groups could now be hosted simultaneously, completely independent from one another. This also marked the entry into the tourism market, giving rise to “A Space for Development & Leisure.”

Vision

Hubermont Space for Development originates from the founder’s vision, based on appreciative inquiry among consultants, trainers, participants and guests. The central question was: “What does an ideal place for trainings, workshops and events require?” By listening closely to their stories, the environmental factors contributing to the success of their programmes became clear. These included:

  • Privacy for the group
  • A quiet environment
  • The possibility to go outdoors
  • A relaxed, informal atmosphere
  • Freedom of movement within the spaces

From these elements, a vision emerged and became reality. Hubermont offers:

  • Exclusivity: one group at a time.
  • A secluded location: disconnecting from daily reality.
  • The Ardennes landscape: nature stimulates relaxation and mental space.
  • Informal yet professional service: with the charm of simplicity and reliability.
  • Spaces for movement, inspirational meeting rooms, fireplaces, kitchens, wine cellar and bars; gastronomy with healthy meals, matching wines and local beers.
